October 15, 2009 - LIVE IN MANILA DVD DEBUTS AT # 1 ON THE MUSIC DVD CHART
Film Capturing Filipino Singer's Triumphant Homecoming has 2nd Best Debut Sales Week of 2009

Journey's two-DVD Live In Manila, capturing the band's historic concert in Manila, Philippines earlier this year, debuts at the top of Billboard's Top Music Video Sales chart , marking the first time the band has topped this chart. Journey's 2005 release Live In Houston 1981 - The Escape Tour peaked at number nine.

Performing more than two hours' worth of classic favorites, as well as new hits from the band's latest album Revelation, Live In Manila documents the triumphant homecoming of the band's singer Arnel Pineda on March 14, 2009.

Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, and Deen Castronovo returned to Pineda's homeland in March to introduce him as their new lead singer to a crowd of nearly 30,000. By the time of the Manila concert, more than 800,000 copies of Revelation - the band's first album with Arnel - had been sold, and were supported with sold-out shows all over the world.

The Live In Manila DVD, like Revelation, is being sold exclusively at Walmart in North America.

I was at this concert and I'd say this is the best concert I've been to since MJackson's concert in Manila in 1996. Journey was truly awesome and we're very proud of Arnel. Some guys were stuck to their seats, (some Pinoy audience were like that but they were just being considerate to the people at the back), but I know that they enjoyed the music very much. People were singing louder than the band. You can check it out on the raw videos at Youtube. We at the back were standing for three hours since no seats were provided for us but its ok. We got more than our money's worth. I just received my DVD sent by my mom who resides in MN. The band really sounded just like in the concert. And I appreciated the DVD because the noise and singing of the audience were muted. During the concert the guy next to me sang louder than arnel. I am a fan of journey since the late 70's and a fan of Arnel since his AMO and ZOO band years. Now that Arnel is with my favorite American band, I love this band even more. I'm looking forward to their next album and hopefully they'll come back to Manila. "Pinoys"love them. Congatulations Journey for all your success.

I recalled that interview made by CBS on Journey last year when Ross Valory said that Journey's magic is back, and to me that was a brave and bold prediction. This was before I heard Journey with heir new singer Arnel Pineda. This was before I saw them live in Chicago. This was before I mostly if not all the reviews of the band in all the cities they had been to. But after that live concert in Chicago which I was a part of, I had to ask my sister to buy me this live concert in Manila. Good God, this concert was a "must have" for every Journey fans there are on this face of the earth. The quality is excellent, if not superior as it was not done in blue-ray format. The way they captured the sound of the band and not the crowd is truly amazing. True, you want to be part of the crowd, but then again once you see the playlist in Manila, you realize of the Manila crowd is less important so to speak. You play this DVD as loud as you want and you will enjoy it more. The guitar of Neil is like another person singing to you. It is a thing of beauty to your eyes and ears. Jonathan's masterful playing the piano is a thing to behold, to relish and to savor. Ross Valory's bass speaks to you softly and yet it's crystal clear. And the drums of Dean can awaken even the dead souls of the Filipino men and women buried in the cemetery near the arena. And his voice. Dean's voice is golden. And yes Arnel. What can I say. I became a believer of this guy the moment I heard him sang in that concert in Chicago. He was and still is a revelation. Here is a guy who made Journey a band with so much power and so much soul. He is so humble in his own way that all you can do is love the guy. He is devoid of that rock star image whose ego is bigger than themselves. No. Arnel is ego free and yet when he belts Journey songs, old and new, he is transformed into a rock saviour. What a sight to behold. A rock artist singing his hearts out in front of his country men. Was this the reason why he was that good in this DVD? Nope, he was this good also in Chicago and I bet he was this good also in his last concerts. Watch out folks. Journey is destined to be bigger and better than ever.

Ross, you were absolutely right. The magic is back. If people still have some doubts, buy this DVD and you will become a true believer. I also give this concert DVD a five star.

Congrats, the DVD was a great performance. The audience got a little carried away with the picture taking and flag waving, but it looked like they were having a good time.

But for all the hoopla about the new digital cameras I thought the video quality was just a little better than most modern live DVD's. I was watching the video on my 32 inch Sony Bravia HDTV, using a Magnavox Blu-Ray upsampling DVD player.. with the sound pumping LOUD through a Sony 5:1 amp-speaker system.

Anyway I would LOVE to see a Blu-Ray of this DVD soon.

I really had to purchase two copies from Wal-Mart the other day since it's a pretty darn good deal so why not. The production is truly topnotch. State-of-the art video/audio technology at it's best that I consider a milestone in DVD concert format. The packaging is eccentrically cool. I only wish they had taken the opportunity to place more information about the band's new direction with their newest member, Arnel. The playlist is a killer - a mix of the old and the new. The new tracks from "Revelation" sounded so much better live. The classics were played with added new improvisations - now that's rockin'! The band was tight in every song except that I caught one error on "Keep on Running" but they were quick to nudge it right away. Well, nobody's perfect. Most of the audience were, well, somewhat not too fussy in showing their excitement during the concert but who cares! They seem to look like they're enjoying themselves in a different kinda way though. Neil is truly a guitar virtuoso. The licks and, oh lordy, the riffs are splurges of ultrasonic bliss. Ross' bass lines are overpoweringly thunderous to the point of making your heart palpitate (if you happen to have a good sound system, check it out). Deen's drumming is par excellence per se. He's one of those rare breed that can actually play and sing (what a voice, I almost mistook him for SP) altogether and the first one I ever seen did this is Phil Collins of Genesis. Jon is by far an element of exquisite keyboard wizardry and maestro extraordinaire on putting up songs for the band. The keyboard and synth playing is sophisticated. No over-the-board gimmickry and showmanship. Arnel is the fourth singer (including Fleischman) who have worn the Journey mantle. A lot of critics are saying that his voice is just enhanced with overdubbing. Well, sad to say, folks, the man is true to his pipes. I've seen him belch it out at PNC Arts and Borgata, Atlantic City here in the 'ol state of Jersey (that's Joisey for you, pal). Read my lips, the man can sing. He has that defining ability not to sound like SP or SA with the new Revelation songs. What matters most is that voice that defines Journey. You can ramble for all you want. It's all about the continuum of the Journey legacy. This is what Journey is all about. This is what progressive AOR is all about. Overall, I'd give this 2-disc DVD set a five star rating.***** Peace!

One of my fist LPs (Separate Ways/Worlds Apart) was Journey. I still have it. I like this live DVD as much as my LP.

Arnel is beautiful, marvelous. I missed him in Des Moines last summer. Please come back through the Midwest. You'll sell out again.

Here I am, 25 years later, and this DVD set moved me to tears. Guys, keep on touring, please.
